Whether you are a fitness novice or fitness enthusiast, this challenge will have something for you! We have partnered with SmithBuilt Fitness to provide the latest fitness workouts and wellness information to help you meet your health goals. How to Join the Challenge

  • Follow the workout plan for the Challenge timeframe. Each fitness category offers free workouts, provided by SmithBuilt Fitness, Inc., and general nutrition information to help you meet your Challenge goal(s). All workouts and information are available at and will be updated monthly during the 12-week Challenge.
  • Sign the Community Fitness Challenge Commitment Card to be eligible for random prize drawings, email updates, fitness and nutrition tips, and to connect with other Challenge participants.

Fitness Categories

Choose a Fitness Category and follow the FREE three-month workouts, tips, and suggestions!

Time Restricted – 20 mins. /4-5 days per week

Individuals in this group categorize themselves as busy folks with 20 minutes each day to devote to exercise.

Workouts in this category focus on a total body conditioning in only 20 minutes with no equipment needed.

Wellness Champion : Deputy Mayor Dr. Kanika Tomalin

Age Defying Fitness – 50 mins. /4-5 days per week

Individuals in this group categorize themselves age 60 or older at various fitness levels.

This category highlights cardiovascular fitness and coordination while building muscle and increasing flexibility.

Wellness Champion: Joe Zeoli

Weight Loss Warriors – 55 mins. /4-5 days per week

Individuals in this group categorize themselves as needing to lose weight.

Workouts are designed to reduce fat and increase cardiovascular strength and endurance.

Wellness Champion: Leslie Furlong & Pola Fowler

Fitness Enthusiasts – 60 mins. /4-5 days per week

Individuals in this group categorize themselves as intermediate to advanced in their fitness levels.

Participants in this category are looking for ways to implement new workout techniques or skills into an existing program.

Wellness Champion: Jing Lou

St. Pete Fit Mom – 60 mins. / 3-4 days per week

Individuals in this group categorize themselves as wanting to stay active during pregnancy or to want to begin a new fitness routine postpartum. Women who plan to begin an exercise program during pregnancy or postpartum are advised to seek the advice of their medical doctor.

FREE Fitness Locations

All fitness routines and workouts listed under each fitness category can be performed without equipment, using your own body as resistance, free weights, or with exercise machines if you choose. The St. Petersburg Parks and Recreation Department offers a free indoor fitness center and five free outdoor fitness zones throughout the city that offer personal training equipment to help you meet your fitness goals.

All city parks open 30 minutes before and close 30 minutes after sunset.

Participants should seek the advice of their medical doctor prior to starting a fitness routine.


Random prize drawings will be held monthly throughout the Fitness Challenge. Participants who submit a fully completed commitment card will be eligible. Prize winners will receive email notification unless otherwise specified.

All Challenge participants who submit a completed commitment card online, in person at any city of St. Petersburg recreation center, or the Leisure Services Administration building, 1400 19th Street North are eligible to receive a FREE fitness analysis from a SmithBuilt personal trainer (subject to availability).
